Jaigarh Fort

Fort & festival venue

Jaigarh Fort stands on the Cheel ka Teela ridge about 400 metres above Amber Fort, to which it is linked by passages. It was the defensive stronghold of the pair and became a cannon foundry; the Jaivana, cast here in 1720, was the largest cannon on wheels of its day. The fort is run by the Jaigarh Public Charitable Trust and is open from 9 am to 6:30 pm. Its ramparts and courtyards are increasingly used for ticketed

The road up is steep and narrow. Use a cab and agree the waiting time in advance.
Festival evenings on the ramparts are cold and windy in December. Carry a warm layer.
Leave before dark on ordinary days. The surrounding forest has wildlife and the road is unlit.
