About City Palace, Jaipur
City Palace is the royal residence at the heart of the walled city, built between 1729 and 1732 under Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, and still home to the former ruling family. The public areas form the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum: Mubarak Mahal with its textile gallery, the arms collection, the open Sarvato Bhadra hall with its giant silver urns, and Pritam Niwas Chowk with its four painted gateways. The palace is also where Jaipur's two great processions begin. On Teej and Gangaur the goddess's image is placed in a palanquin here and carried out through the bazaars. Day visits run from 9:30 am to 5 pm, with a separate evening visit from 7 pm to 10 pm.
