About Amber Fort
Amber Fort, also written Amer, is the hilltop palace-fort 11 km north of Jaipur that served as the Kachhwaha capital before the city was built. Raja Man Singh I began it in 1592, and it is part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan World Heritage listing of 2013. Its courtyards rise from the Diwan-i-Aam to Ganesh Pol and the mirror-work Sheesh Mahal, above Maota Lake. The palace is open from 8 am to 5:30 pm. After dark a sound and light show runs below the fort, in English and then Hindi, at timings that change by season. The fort also hosts invitation evenings, including the Jaipur Literature Festival's heritage evening on 17 January 2027.
